Ballarat Writers Inc and Sisters in Crime are presenting the first Death in July festival on 4 and 5 July. It's a festival of Australian women's crime writing.

Some of the guest writers include Leigh Redhead, Honey Brown, Ellie Marney, Simmone Howell and they will speak on a range of topics including "the CSI effect" and YA crime writing. Click here for more information on the festival program.

The launch on Friday evening of wine and nibbles featuring a keynote by crime writer Angela Savage.

Ellie Marney's "Every Word" and Annie Hauxwell's "A Morbid Habit" will be launched by the authors during the weekend.

Festival goers can play a key role in the festival by entering the Murder at MADE writing competition. It will open at the launch and the winner declared the conclusion of the event.

A weekend of crime writing in Ballarat on 4 and 5 July is sure to get the blood pumping.
