The new 4,000 square metre playground will be almost 50 per cent bigger than the previous playground and will feature an array of features including an fun water play area with locks, sluices, pumps and water buckets. Designed to be suitable for all ages groups there will be play areas from synchronised water jets that will have babies and toddlers enthralled, through to flying foxes for the thrill-seeking older kids. Other play elements will include a 9 metre high rope climbing net, a tandem slide, tunnels and sand diggers, balancing beams, climbing walls and a spinning wheel.
The free playground areas will be enhanced by an interactive native plant exploration area and herb garden which will surely be appreciated by the approximately 28 million people visit Darling Harbour each year. Large palm trees and shade structures will offer a welcome escape from the sun in Summer.
Adjacent to the playground, a relaxing open Community Green is sure to appeal to families in need of a rest and workers on their lunch break. A large variety of cafes, restaurants and take away food outlets can provide the refreshments or you can bring your own and have a picnic on the grass. There will be a series of intimate events planned to take place on the green throughout the summer months.
