Unless you live close by, you may not have heard of Danson Park, which is situated in south-east London.
One of Bexley's most popular green spaces, the park is ideal for active types, as well as those who simply want to take a leisurely stroll.
Danson Park has quite a history too. Before it opened to the public in the early 20th century, it was the private estate of one John Boyd, a rich merchant who bought the land in the 18th century.
He built Danson House, which still stands today and was designed by Robert Taylor, who also happened to design the Bank of England.
As the years went by, the grand house fell into a state of disrepair, but was lovingly restored in the mid-1990s by English Heritage.

For sporty types, there's plenty to do to burn off the calories. You'll find tennis courts, football pitches, a putting course, a pitch and putt course, bowling greens and cycle routes among its 78 hectares. It's an ideal spot for runners too.
Danson Park also contains a children's playground, as well as a sizeable lake offering boating and fishing opportunities.
And be sure to visit its specially designed gardens - the delightful English Garden, the Rock Garden, and the Peace Garden.
Danson Park's varied landscape and abundant facilities make it an easy place to while away a few hours.
