Sandwiched between Italian restauants,
Cupido brings a taste of the Middle East to the
Lygon Street dining precinct. A relatively new addition to the area, it opened in early 2009.
The inspired decor combines modern stylings with a traditional Arabian twist. Opulent chandeliers swing from the ceiling and richly coloured art adorns the walls. The effect is intensified on Friday and Saturday nights as belly dancers perform.
The
award winning restaurant is more affordable than you might expect, with mains ranging from $18 to $38. As you might expect from Lebanese cuisine, there are dishes like tabouli, falafel and all manner of eggplant dishes. For a cheap eat, decidedly Mediterranean burgers are served along with salad and chips for $12 to $15.
Banquets, which feature a taste of all of Cupido's specialties, start from $25 a head, with the ultimate five-course banquet available for $49 per person.
Ideal for midnight cravings, they are open late every night, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays when their doors don't close until 2:00am.
While Cupido does accept bookings, they are not necessary and walk-ins are entirely welcome.
