Crystal Castle (
81 Monet Drive, Mullumbimby) is the headquarters of one of Australia's largest suppliers of natural crystals. The specially designed buildings and landscaped grounds became such an attraction for locals and tourists that the owners eventually came to make Crystal Castle open to the public. The venue is an isolated and tranquil place where visitors can connect with nature.
The Buddha Walk is the Castles most popular attraction. The walk is half a kilometre long and offers spectacular scenery including manicured gardens and panoramic views. Features along the way include a bamboo walk, Buddhist and Hindu statues carved from volcanic rock, crystal pieces and shady spots for resting and reflecting.
The Rainforest Walk offers a similarly peaceful experience. The 5000 tree plus rainforest garden is a project that was completed by members of the local community to restore native flora and fauna. The walk contains waterways and rock features as well as rare and native wildlife.
The Labyrinth is a replica of the design that was popular in the
Middle Ages and is a popular setting for weddings and solstice rituals. And the children's playground, located at the end of the Buddha Walk, incorporates crystals and natural designs.
Visitors may purchase crystal items and locally designed and crafted jewellery at the onsite store or enjoy an organic treat at the Lotus Cafe. The cafe is positioned near the playground so that parents can watch their children while they eat.
Crystal Castle is open from 10.00am until 5.00pm seven days a week, excluding Christmas Day. Admission prices start at $10.90 for children - a little overpriced for the attractions inside, but a worthwhile experience for those dedicated to the lifestyle.
