Nestled in the lower North Shore,
Crows Nest is a bustling suburb full of cafes, supermarkets, and a slowly emerging bar scene. On weekends, locals from all around North Sydney, Wollstonecraft Greenwich converge on the local shopping district in order to peruse the boutiques or take in a lazy Sunday brunch.
Locals are also drawn to Crows Nest in order to purchase the goods at the various markets that are held at the
Crows Nest Centre. These markets are held on the third Saturday of every month at the premises of the centre at
Ernest Place. The stalls consist of a collection of second-hand books, a number of jewellery stalls as well as a weekly sausage sizzle.
On Thursdays, from 9 until 3pm, the Crows Nest Centre hosts an
Organic Market. With stalls selling organic meat, bread cakes, and fresh food lunches, the ambiance is established through the performances of local bands. The stall-holders include "You Can Afford Organics", "Mediterranean Cuisine", "Wild Nature", and "Bonsai Store." It is also possible to apply to hold a stall at the Thursday market by downloading a
form and emailing the Crows Nest Centre.
The money raised at these markets goes towards funding the community work performed by the Crows Nest Centre. This community work includes shopping assistance and linen service for elderly and isolated members of the community. There are a variety of courses available at the centre, including Mahjong and Tai Chi. The Crows Nest Centre also runs the local
Meals on Wheels service and a computer club for pensioners. Therefore, visitors to the Crows Nest Centre can be rest assured that their contribution will go towards a cause that enriches the local area.
Travelling by public transport, the nearest train station is
St Leonards station, although there are a variety of buses that may be taken.
