It's the Christmas Pageant's 85th Birthday! And to celebrate, there will be a new route and new floats.

For the first time in many years, Father Christmas will return to Rundle Mall. This is to commemorate the very first Christmas Pageant in 1933, where Father Christmas was delivered to John Martins in Rundle Street (now Rundle Mall).

This also means that Father Christmas's float will stop at a new location - the corner of Kintore Avenue and North Terrace. He will then travel on foot up Gawler Place to the Magic Cave in the David Jones store in the Mall.

You can download the 2017 route map here . As well as the new route, the map shows all of the locations for toilets, water stations, first aid and wheelchair access points etc.

Three new floats will be included in the Pageant this year, including the Snowman float which was the winning entry in the Mini-Float Design Competition. The winning design was entered by 8-year-old Sophia Ivanica of Para Vista Primary School and beat more than 250 entries!

There are so many floats in the Pageant, that by the time the first float has reached North Terrace, Father Christmas is just leaving South Terrace!

The Christmas Pageant is always held on the second Saturday in November........ unless that Saturday is the 11th (Remembrance Day). If that occurs - which it has this year - the date is moved to the following Saturday.

So, get along bright and early. Put your favourite Christmas t-shirt on, lay a picnic blanket out behind the blue line, give the kids a bucket of chalk and get yourself set for the 2017 Christmas Pageant!. All of the fun will start with the blow of the golden whistle at South Terrace at 9.30am.

Can't get to the city to watch the Pageant? Then tune into Channel 9 and watch the broadcast and get all the fun commentary about the clowns, the floats and of course Father Christmas. The Pageant will be shown on TV twice on the day - at 10.30am and repeated again at 7pm. If watching it twice just isn't enough, put the telly on at 9am on Christmas Day and relive the magic all over again. Wherever you are and whenever you choose to watch, enjoy the Pageant - it's a magical day!
