The Nest at Everton Park is providing a number of workshops for kids and teenagers this Easter holidays. The Nest operates out of a heritage listed house and is a place for women and children from diverse backgrounds to come together to learn about arts and crafts and to share knowledge and skills with the aim of benefitting the community. The focus is on community development, sustainability and living in a handmade environment.

The school holiday program is designed to provide a fun, social atmosphere for kids and teens to learn and practice skills.

Creative Hearts Junior Retreat is a series of workshops for prep to grade five children. With a different session each morning and afternoon your child is guaranteed to learn some new skills and to have fun. Lunch is included if you book for the full day The Junior Retreat includes sessions on clay sculpture, paper mâché, bead art, yarn a range of painting and drawing workshops and the opportunity to take part in a paper making workshop. The mornings will focus on a particular art form with the afternoon sessions devoted to drawing. The sessions are hosted by Jon and Jules from Sconnie & Jam, a husband and wife design team who love all things art, craft and vintage.

Teen Sustainable Craft Retreat is for 10-17 year olds and will provide an introduction to design, craft skills and project management. Skills taught will include sewing, Mexican embroidery, crochet, jewellery design, printmaking, basket weaving and paper making workshops. There will be morning workshops with afternoon social groups. Booking in for consecutive days gives the opportunity to work on larger projects such as a Mexican embroidered dress or more complicated crochet projects.

If you'd like to participate but are not able to financially there are a limited number of spaces available for teens to attend workshops free of charge in exchange for helping out around the Nest on a volunteer basis. This is in line with The Nest's philosophy as a not for profit accessible community organisation.

Attending one of these workshops might be the start of a great love of crafts for your child and all proceeds go to sustaining this great venture.
