If you've ever considered walking up the mountain that towers over Pomona in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, this park is a god place to start. You can leave your car here and follow the path across the road to begin your climb (yes, it is more of a climb by the end than a walk).

The park is located on the fringes of Pomona, near the base of Mount Cooroora, and can be found on Mountain Street. By the time you reach it you will have left the houses of the town behind. Here you'll find an open space, a shelter, tables and basic old-fashioned barbecues. There are no toilets on the site.

While it clearly has the basic facilities needed for a picnic, it's too out-of-the-way to be too useful and the main reason to visit is still the access it gives to Mount Cooroora. This challenging trek leads to some amazing 360 degree views from the top of Mount Cooroora, which anyone who's ever been to Pomona will know well. Fortunately, it'snot too long, but it is very steep in parts and you should know what you're getting into before you set out (read a review of the activity here ). Allow about 1.5 hours return.
