The brilliant 2002 concert film 'Concert For George,' will be screening exclusively for one day only, on the 1st of May in selected cinemas nationwide. You can check all the participating cinemas around the country here. This is the first time Concert For George, an event which was organised by George Harrison's wife, Olivia, and son, Dhani, has received a theatrical release in Australia; it was originally released on DVD in 2003.
The memorial concert occurred exactly one year after George Harrison's death, at age 58, on the 29th of November 2001.
Held at London's Royal Albert Hall on the 29th of November 2002, the tribute concert featured 'George's Band,' a super group consisting of musical director Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Joe Brown, Albert Lee, Marc Mann, Andy Fairweather-Low, Dhani Harrison, Paul McCartney, Gary Brooker, Jools Holland, Chris Stainton, the late Billy Preston, Dave Bronze, Klaus Voormann, the late Jim Capaldi, Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner, Henry Spinetti, Ray Cooper, Jim Horn, Tom Scott, Katie Kissoon, Tessa Niles, Sam Brown and Anoushka Shankar.
Featuring renditions of Harrison's most loved songs, from his Beatles days to his celebrated solo career, and also reflecting Harrison's interest in Indian culture, music and Hinduism, as well as his love for feature films (Harrison formed HandMade Films in 1978 with his business partner, Denis O'Brien), Concert For George is not only a personal tribute by Harrison's family and friends, but it is also a loving reminder that there was much more to the 'quiet Beatle.'
Concert For George is a wonderful tribute to one of the greatest artists of our time and this is a fantastic opportunity to revisit the Grammy Award winning concert film in High Definition picture.
Concert For George is currently available to purchase on DVD and will be released on Blu-ray on the 20th of May in Australia.
