Bye.Gone bases this play on a dystopian futuristic end of the world setting, whereby Peter and Rachel are reliving their past relationship history until time runs out.
Rachel (Emily David) is a fiery character who is determined to sort out the unfinished business that was left between her and Peter. Her strong character saw her through an abortion and a mentally ill brother, yet this has undeterred her from surviving this apocalypse.
Whereas Peter (Scott McArdle) starts the play as a rather pessimistic character, hope-deprived and awaiting his end. Throughout the play's stories the revelation of how he came to this is shown through his previous smart-witted charismatic character turning due to his dead-end job and unadventurous life.
I was pleasantly surprised that this play had a rather comical value to it, as an end of the world play originally sounded quite depressing. However do note that there is explicit language and adult humour, so for this play leave the kids at home! This play could arguably be Second Chance Theatre's best production yet.
The usage of lighting to distinguish different scenes was a clever affective tool for clarification. However the only criticism I have of the play was not the acting but the venue itself. The seating arrangement meant that if you weren't an early bird you got stuck at the back, with a lack of tiered seating it made it quite hard to see some of the scenes.
