It's hard for a Melburnian to go a day without coffee, but sometimes we don't have the time to park our car and go order one. That's where the convenience of drive-thrus come in. They make quality coffee available to workers driving past or people about to embark on a long drive.

If you're ever having a super busy weekend or need a pick-me-up in the northern suburbs, here are a few I have come across.

Bean & Gone Espresso: 1101 High St, Reservoir
If you are heading north along the busy High St, Bean and Gone provides a service with a smile along with great coffee.

They have several seats at the front with fold-out chairs, giving the atmosphere of someone's backyard. I saw a few local people just walking up to get coffee, in addition to a constant stream of cars.

I also loved the coffee puns and song lyrics on the chalkboard. If you're after some food, they have croissants, wraps, donuts and more.

Early Birdie: 906 Plenty Rd, Bundoora
If you're familiar with Bundoora and its mini-golf course, then you'll find this drive-thru right next door.

Similarly to Bean and Gone, there are a few seats at the front. If you feel the need to get off busy Plenty Rd (city-bound) in traffic for a caffeine fix, this is your place.

They have a wide range of items from iced coffee, to tea, juice and snacks. See their full menu here.

The Pitstop: 254-256 Greensborough Road, Macleod
Formerly known as Mug Drive-Thru, this location is prime for those heading east but getting stuck in traffic. You might as well be stuck with a coffee in hand right? They have now rebranded with a racing theme and they have meal deals including the Herald Sun, toasties and more.

My friend enjoys this one because they offer flavoured lattes such as vanilla, caramel and Irish creme. Perfect for when we are about to embark on a road trip down to Mornington Peninsula.

Cheese and Bread: 518 High St, Preston
Inside the Food Truck Park at Preston there lies a mini-drive thru offering coffee and unique cheese toasties. Once again located along the northern suburbs' High St, it offers some relief from the traffic in the morning if you are heading towards the city.

The toasties are indulgent and cheesy, coming with a side of Turkish sausage and also pickles to refresh the palate.

They are open weekday mornings but also on Saturday during the day if you want to see the entire Food Truck Park in action.
