A lovely restaurant on Sisavangvong Road - Luang Prabang, with extensive menu options, and a beautiful outside dining area in an intimate garden lit up with coloured fairy lights.

The ambience is ideal for a romantic date to celebrate a special occasion, but also enjoyable as a solo traveller as I was, as were others around me, celebrating Christmas Eve.

Welcomed with politeness and utmost respect, the waiter led me to a prime position in the garden.

I chose Mok Pa, a traditional Laotian dish of fish with lemongrass, galangal, lime leaves, onion and chilli wrapped then steamed in banana leaves, accompanied with red sticky rice. The former suiting my taste palate, and good enough to eat on its own with is delicate flavour and melt in your mouth texture. The sticky rice, with a strong earthy and nutty flavour, slightly overpowering for the fish.

Coconut Garden serves an array of traditional and fusion dishes, as well as sweet European style desserts, displayed for tempting patrons on entry. I was too full to try anything; besides, was waiting to regain my appetite for a mango and nutella crepe !

While having great service, ambience, and nicely prepared meals, the prices are inflated as are most of the restaurants targeted to tourists. So if you are travelling on a budget, and want the authentic tastes enjoyed by locals, head to the Night Market instead.
