Located on Richmond's buzzing Swan Street, and mixing together a clever fusion of French and Vietnamese cuisine, is a tapas shared plate style restaurant.
Cochin is on the smaller side indoors (seats roughly 60 people), which is great as it never gets too packed or loud and it's the perfect place to enjoy a date night, a dinner with a small group of friends or a cheeky post-work vino!
Cochin, pronounced like
co-shin, graciously invited us to sample the menu and experience a little bit of everything they have to offer. Here are just a few of my favourites:
Kicking off the meal was a hand rolled vegetarian spring roll. Cochin also offer them with pork and prawn as a meat option. Not too oily, they offered the perfect crunch and texture.
Our second appetiser was sugarcane prawns consisting of minced prawn meat, wrapped around succulent sweet sugar cane sticks, served with a dipping sauce.
Also perfect for sharing (it's the best way to try more of the menu) are the gluten-free deep fried chicken wings, served with a mildly spiced nuoc cham. These can be ordered as a plate of 5 or 10 pieces and offer a crunch that's perfect paired with a beer or cocktail (and I haven't even gotten to the amazing cocktail list which is definitely worth checking out!).
Both vegetarians and those preferring or requiring gluten free meals will both find plenty of menu options suitable for them and if you're there with a larger group of at least 10 and stuck trying to choose the right dishes to share, you can always order one of the set menu options and sit back to enjoy your dining experience.
Located on Swan St, it's easily accessible by public transportation and should immediately be added to your list of new places to check out!
