Strolling along the ever-busy and charismatic Glebe Point Road, one will come across a vast array of delectable restaurants, quaint little cafes, chocolate and book stores and of course the infamous Glebe Markets. This major dining precinct is a hub of activity buzzing with (particularly on a Saturday morning) bargain hunters, hungover students craving a good feed, eccentric jazz bands and everything in between. Although there are many must-see places along this road, one particular must-not-miss place is Clipper Café.
The small, intimate setting of Clippers is certainly no indication of the large atmosphere and character residing inside. Often with some waiting time due to its high demand, the friendly and smiling wait staff will soon escort you past the decoratively, ornamented walls to a seat, perhaps underneath the stairs or the old-style bicycle hanging precariously on the wall. Now comes the hard part: selecting what to eat.
With myriad gourmet dishes - from ricotta, raspberry and banana pancakes to halloumi and eggplant salad and my personal favourite, the baked egg with Italian chorizo - sifting through the menu should take you a good ten minutes, give or take another ten minutes to allow for double checking and sneaky third glances before finally deciding for sure.
The freshly squeezed juices and home brewed coffee also provide a fresh and invigorating start to the day to complement the mouth-watering food. Despite this satisfying cuisine, the price is extremely affordable, perfect for those looking for a rewarding dining out experience without having to eat in to the weekly budget. Overall a fantastic café, visits to which I can guarantee will be thoroughly enjoyed by all.
