For the last two decades,
Clean Up Australia Day has been an institution in Sydney.
Each year, over 40,000 Sydney locals donate their valuable time in order to clean up their local neighbourhoods as well as the iconic Sydney Harbour.
Last year, on Sunday 7 March, over 588,000 volunteers across Australia managed to pick up 15,560 tonnes of rubbish, proving the
adage of Ian Kiernan AO: "Simple, easy actions can protect the health of our water resources and help save drinking water supplies. There is not one individual who cannot help to make a difference to the health of the environment."
On Sunday 6 March 2011,
When you visit the website to register, you have the option of either joining a clean-up site or
creating one for yourself. To create your own site, all you need to do is enter your postcode or suburb and gather together a team.
Alternatively, you can
join a group in your local area.
Of course, for some of us, a day of strenuous activities is not possible or desirable. For those people, there is the option of
donating to the cause either in a local or national capacity.
