What a fantastic and popular running event. You can dress up and walk the entire course if you wish to - completely up to you. Last year around 80,000 people participated. Who knows what the numbers will be like for the 2012 event. There are no surprises there. The event is that great and athletically challenging for all different fitness levels. That's right I am still talking about The Sun Herald
City 2 Surf.
Starting at
Hyde Park, there is already some pre-race entertainment by the commentators to keep as many participants as happy as possible. If everyone in the back of the pack group stretches according to the program; $1 for every participant goes to charity.
The course is challenging, especially the most talked about and challenging 'heartbreak hill.' Congratulations to those of you who run up this hill during the event. I walk that but run the course besides this steep hill, although people are generally more fearful of this hill than they should be. It is so funny to observe what people dress up as during this event, and how they manage to run (let alone complete) the entire course in the weirdest and hottest (not as in fashion, but rather heat wise) clothing that does not encourage athleticism. This is what this annual event is all about. It is also about sweat, Gatorade, water and self accomplishment. Some people think your mad and will continue to think your a bit insane for as long as you are competing in this charity fun run event; so what - it doesn't matter.
Bondi Beach is the perfect finishing spot. And those finishers medals are great mementos to add to your self accomplishment collection.
