The newest circus performance to hit the Australian stage opens right here in Melbourne on June 24, 2015.

Cirque Africa presents the best circus talent from around the African continent, in a show that draws influence from Tanzania, and also represents musical cultures of Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Gambia and Zimbabwe.

This is the first time Africa's finest circus performance will reach Australian shores, presenting world-class acrobatics celebrating African culture, with performances accompanied by a Zanzibar and Zimbabwean eight piece live band.

Cirque Africa is produced and directed by Papa Africa aka Winston Ruddle; the first black African anywhere in the world to own, direct and produce a circus show in a big top circus tent.

Papa Africa has put together the finest ensemble to represent the African continent, with 38 highly-skilled performers showcasing the best aerial artists, jugglers, stilt walkers, clowns, contortionists and more.

Notable performances will include The Amazing Hukana Matata Acrobats; the largest African acrobatics group in the world. Originating from Dar es salaam Tanzania, The Amazing Hukana Matata Acrobats consist of over 10 troupes plus over 100 acrobats training on a daily basis in the acrobatic school based in Magomeni.

An incredible 70 tonnes of circus gear, stage equipment and professional lighting as well as elevated seating for 1,100 people and a big top tent will be working its way over to Australia ahead of the opening night, along with over 200 one-of-a-kind African inspired costumes to be worn by performers.

To date, Cirque Africa has wowed audiences in USA, Costa Rica, Germany, Italy, France, Romania, Russia, The Netherlands, Belgium and Spain and now the troupe head to the land down under to tour Australia over a two year stint.

The 90-minute performance opens at The Burnley Oval, Richmond on 24 June, where the troupe will remain for a month before moving onto Lyndhurst, Burnside and onto Geelong Showground in December 2015. In 2016, Cirque Africa continues its epic Australian adventure, moving onto WA.
