To paraphrase Dorothy: 'There is no place like London.' I hope I can convince you of that here. Also check out my blog at damselwithadulcimer.wordpress.com and my theatre reviews at www.playstosee.com
Event: 28/03/2012 - 29/04/2012
CircusFest 2012
CirkusFest 2012

CircusFest2012 will be making its third appearance at the Roundhouse this spring. Spanning five weeks, you will be entertained by acrobats and trapeze artists, singers and dancers. There will be photographic exhibitions and weekly film presentations, discussions and talks, all focused on the theme of the circus.

The Roundhouse is perfectly adapted to this kind of entertainment as it's circus-shaped without the need for a big top. I don't have to mention that there will be no lions and tigers, elephants joined by their trunks, or performing dogs and chimps behaving as if they were humans.

Some of the treats in store for the event this year are Cirkus Cirkör Undermän, a troupe of Swedish acrobats, who came together after the break ups of their own relationships.

Cirque Mandingue hail from Guinea and combine the rhythm of African drumbeats with acrobatics and streetdance, in a performance that is so infectious that you will find yourself tapping your feet, moving your body and restraining yourself from joining in.

Professor Vanessa's Wondershow will transport you back to the middle of the last century for a visual display of side-shows and cabaret, circus and variety performers.

There are several other performers, including performance artist, Scottee, who will be bringing his show, Camp, to the Roundhouse. If you email him in advance he will try to fix for you what Jimmy Saville didn't.

The Roundhouse (a former Victorian steam engine shed, which has enjoyed a renaissance as an arts centre since the 1960s) is at the Chalk Farm end of vibrant Camden Town. It can be reached by underground (the Northern Line), London Overground from Kentish Town West and by several bus routes, either to Camden Town or Chalk Farm. Driving isn't recommended as parking is scarce, although there are disabled bays for Blue Badge holders.

You can find more information on the Roundhouse website, including short videos of some of the performers who will be entertaining at CircusFest2012.
