I am learning all the time. The tombstone will be my diploma. ~ Eartha Kitt www.femlitica.com jennifermuirhead.wordpress.com/

These days younger and younger little girls (and boys too) are met with a barrage of advertising telling them they are not pretty enough. It seems prudent to get in early and try and help them build a healthy body image. Cinderella's Bum and Other Bottoms, by Nicholas Allan is a picture book that can help do just that.

Through simple watercolour illustrations and straightforward text Cinderella's Bum tells the story of a little girl whose big sister is worried about the size of her bum. The younger sister uses examples from fairytales and history to reassure her sibling that bums, like noses and mouths, come in all shapes and sizes, and that having a big one isn't a bad thing. "Be proud of your bottom. It's lovely!" is a great message for young girls to hear. Kids will love this book too because, after all, it's about bums.

Rated 9/10

Cinderella's Bum and Other Bottoms was published by Red Fox in 2004 and is available from The Book Depository.
