Nestled next to the Hoyts and Ben and Jerry's in Chadstone, Chur Burger is a burger outlet which is hard to miss with its massive neon lighting. The seating area is spacious with comfy seating arrangement next to the window bestowing a panoramic view of the south-eastern suburbs and the open sky. The decor is minimal, fresh and new.
The menu is concise but ticks all the boxes for meatlovers, vegetarians and kids. Unfortunately, there is no vegan-friendly option. You can take your pick from beef, chicken, lamb, fish, pork and veggie burgers. All the burgers are reasonably priced at $12 and for $2 extra you can opt for gluten-free buns. You can also add extras such as double meat, bacon rasher, cheese and avocado for $2. There are also hot dogs for $12 and salads for $12. Sauces cost $1 with 6 enticing options. Kids will be lured by the Chur Kids menu priced at $10 which includes fish fingers and chips, chicken strips and chips as well as grilled beef burger and chips.
After some careful deliberation, we settled on the chicken burger, pork burger, sweet potato fries and coke. Our food arrived with a flourish after a short wait. The coke glass bottles had a certain novelty factor since there is something wonderful about drinking coke from glass bottles rather plastic bottles or aluminium cans. We started our gastronomic journey with the fries and they did not disappoint. The sweet potato fries looked and tasted scrumptious. With the right amount of crunch, the fries oozed beautiful savoury flavours and left us licking our fingers. The fries paired well with the house-made aioli and fennel mayo. The fennel mayo was tad bland. The aioli was moreish and had a lingering after-taste which left seductive memories of the fries and the sauce in our hearts and our mouth.
My pork burger came with pulled pork, Chur BBQ sauce, red slaw and jalapeno mayo (swapped for the standard fennel mayo) sandwiched between soft, crusty, slightly sweet brioche buns. The meat was tender and was complemented by the red slaw and the BBQ sauce and the jalapeno mayo. Overall a nice burger!
Next, I turned my mind and my hands to my companion's chicken burger and as I sunk my teeth into this voluptuous burger I experienced a flavour explosion. The succulent chicken, minted slaw, jalapeno mayo (swapped for the standard hot sauce mayo) and brioche buns came together to create a remarkable burger experience which will put many burger outlets to shame. The fresh slaw was refreshing and the chicken meat was soft and sensuous.
We found ourselves struggling to finish our feast which we eventually accomplished after some difficulty. Two burgers and fries were more than enough for 2 adults.I have to say the staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience enjoyable. Everything was spick and span.
Nicola, the duty manager, explained to me that all the ingredients are locally sourced. The sauces are house-made. Patrons can choose to swap and change the sauces in the burgers free of charge. With a big smile, Nicola added that themed options are made available to keep up with the latest offerings in the next door Hoyts. For instance, this week's special is the Chur Beast meal deal which includes the Chur Beast burger, chips and drinks for $20 in line with the release of the movie 'Beauty and the Beast'. Catering for events is available but it is necessary to contact the Head Office to do so. And as icing on the cake, you can earn Hoyts dollars for money spent at Chur Burger if you are a Hoyts rewards member.
Chur Burger is a charming place to grab juicy burgers and crunchy chips while chillaxing with family and friends. They also offer a breakfast menu which I may out check out one day.
Verdict - So was it good? Yes, it was. Was it good enough to come back with family and friends? I would say so. Chur Burger awaits you in an area named "Eat Street" next to the Hoyts entrance (behind the Hoyts ticket counter) at Level 2 of the Chadstone Shopping Centre located at 1341 Dandenong Road, Chadstone.
