Get into the Christmas spirit this festive season with a host of free events provided by the
City of Sydney, including the Martin Place Children's Christmas Concert and Tree Lighting on Thursday 26th November and the Village Family Christmas Concerts in Elizabeth Bay, Rosebery, Alexandria and Surry Hills on Sat 28th, Sun 29th November and Sat 5th and Sun 6th December respectively.
Thousands of excited kids and adults alike will throng to Martin Place to enjoy an evening hosted by comedian and author
Wendy Harmer with live performances by The Koala Brothers, Australian Girls Choir (with special guest),
Monica Trapaga,
Justine Clarke and Melinda Schneider. The highlight of the evening is the switching on of the lights on the 21 metre tall traditional Christmas tree with an amazing fireworks display to conclude the festivities.
The evening will run from 6 - 8.30pm and will also be shown on a big screen in
Hyde Park, with Christmas on the Green, where families can bring a rug and a picnic and enjoy stage performances by Bananas in Pyjamas, carollers from
St. Mary's Cathedral College Choir and also see the Hyde Park Christmas tree lit up. The evening will be hosted by MC's Johnny and Liesel of
Loose Canon Arts.
The big guy in the red suit (aka Santa) will ride his sleigh, with Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP by his side, through the city, departing from
Town Hall, with its nightly '12 days of Christmas' themed projections from 8.30pm – 1.00am, to Martin Place, with a stop in Hyde Park along the way. Sure to delight all the little ones and bring out the child in yourself perhaps.
If you can't get enough of Christmas, there's also four free Village Family Christmas Concerts to enjoy all from 6.30 – 8.30pm.
Beare Park in Elizabeth Bay will host the first on Sat 28th November, with Justine Clarke and
Band of the Giants. Sat 29th November will see Monica Trapaga and the
Salsa Kingz do their thing in
Turruwul Park in Rosebery.
Still need more? Then head to
Alexandria Park, Alexandria on Sat 5th December to see
National Junk Band and jazz band Cope Street Parade. Then on the 6th December, National Junk Band and
Tijuana Cartel will perform in
Ward Park, Surry Hills.
So, make sure you've written the all important letter to Santa and get into the City for some fun!
