The Myer is fast becoming a tradition to herald the start of the Christmas season in Melbourne. This year the free parade is bigger and better than ever, with live floats and performances making their way down from Spring Street to the Bourke Street Mall.

The parade will begin from 11am outside Parliament House on Saturday 13th November, though it might be a good idea to get there early to stake out a good spot before the street gets crowded. Highlights include performances by the cast of Mary Poppins and Hairspray who are currently in town for shows, as well as appearances from Dorothy the Dinosaur and Sesame Street for the younger kids.

Myer's own ambassador Jenifer Hawkins will be there, along with the Myer Grand Marshall who will be leading the parade down the street to song and dance. No Christmas parade would be complete without the man in red, with Santa making a special appearance. Community dance groups will also be showcasing their talents, from Calisthenics Victoria to the Hong De Lion Dance Association.

For mums with prams, a designated pram friendly area will be available between Exhibition and Russell Street. Live commentary will also be available on each block. Kids will have a ball and you might even find yourself dancing in the streets. There's no better way to kick start the 2011 Christmas season and spread some festive cheer.
