Every year we find ourselves counting down the months, weeks and days until Christmas, yet often we don't stop and think: "Why do we love Christmas so much?" It's a simple question, but one that has a lot of different answers.
The main reason why so many people love Christmas is because of the joy it brings. The word 'mas' means celebration; thus Christmas is a celebration of Christ's coming into the world. Although many people try to celebrate Christmas by neglecting this major focal point, we have to realise that without Christ, there would be no Christmas. So one of the best ways to celebrate Christmas is to head to your local Church for a traditional Christmas service. The great thing about celebrating Christmas at Church is that you get to find out for yourself the reason for the season, sing some great Christmas carols and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Most Churches even have special Christmas plays and do door-to-door caroling, so check your local Church for upcoming Christmas events.
One of the things I love about Christmas is bundling into the car and driving out at night to see everyone's houses lit up with Christmas lights and decorations. In many neighbourhoods, the community holds competitions to see who has the best decorated house. Often, some people go to all lengths to win the top prize: from Christmas nativity scenes to reindeer and sleigh covered roofs and trees covered in dozens of fairy lights. It really brings out the community spirit and reminds us of the true Light of the World.
And who can forget the presents and special food we get at Christmas? It seems every year my presents get more and more expensive, but smaller and smaller in size; but at least I don't have to check my bed-head every two hours to see whether the presents are there or not. Christmas turkey, Christmas pudding or whatever you have for Christmas, it's always special, especially when celebrating with close family and friends, so enjoy their company and don't forget to wish them a Merry Christmas as well.
And, as always, your opinion is valued: so what do you love about Christmas?
