So whats a 'chick flick' - it's a feature film with leading female characters and a narrative dealing with various relationships, be it romantic or family related, and such feature films are targeted at a female audience.

These days this type of feature film is a Hollywood staple, some actresses have even made a career out of starring in numerous chick flicks; for example Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon and Kate Hudson, whose latest 'chick flick' A Little Bit of Heaven, had one UK film critic from the Guardian describe the rom-com as "a very large bit of pure bloody hell" and another from SkyMovies, subtitle the film "a little bit of hell." As you can tell the modern 'chick flick' is usually dismissed by film critics; a prime example is Dr. Mark Kermode's famous Sex and the City 2 rant;

However there have been some celebrated 'chick flick' fare; Love Story (1970), Terms of Endearment (1983), Sixteen Candles (1984), Dirty Dancing (1987), Beaches (1988), Working Girl (1988), Steel Magnolias (1989), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Pretty Woman (1990), Thelma and Louise (1991), and more recently Love Actually (2003) and The Notebook (2004).

There is no doubting 'chick flicks' have mass appeal, (as does the male equivalent of the genre - 'Guy-Cry') and such themed films are released year round and that is where 'Chicks At The Flicks' comes in.

Under the banner of Chicks At The Flicks, Event Cinemas around Australia, hold advanced screenings of the latest 'chick flick' every month, specifically for female audience members. Past Chicks At The Flicks events have included advanced screenings of Life As We Know It (2010), The Back Up Plan (2010) and The Killers (2010). What makes Chicks At The Flicks events a bit more special than the average cinema outing, is not only the chance to view a feature film before it's theatrical release but also every ticket holder receives a special gift bag, with all the necessities for a perfect evening, including Lindt Chocolate.

These special events are occurring at Event Cinemas in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT. The next Chicks At The Flicks event is an advanced screening of The Adjustment Bureau, occurring on Tuesday 1st March at 7pm.

Regular tickets are priced at $22.10 and Vmax tickets are priced at $25.10. Simply head to the Event Cinemas website and select your local cinema to purchase tickets.
