The
Chenrezig Institute (
33 Johnsons Road, Eudlo) is a Buddhist retreat located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands. It was one of the first Tibetan Buddhist temples in the Western world and is still one of the largest. The Institute serves as a centre for study and meditation and is home to ordained Sangha monks and nuns as well as students, volunteers and guests.
The centre facilities are open to the public. Visitors may undertake Buddhist instruction, visit the cafe and gift shop or unwind in the gardens.
The centre teaches a broad programme for beginner through to advanced practitioners of Buddhism. There's daily meditation and teachings, a variety of one and two day weekend courses, an introductory Discovering Buddhism class and the Dharma Club for Children. Advanced Buddhists can undertake a Buddhist study program.
The Garden of Enlightenment is available to everyone and is useful for meditation and reflection. The garden is a blessed site that incorporates eight stupas (a structure containing Buddhist relics), a shrine building, prayer wheels, water features and landscaped gardens.
The Big Love Cafe is open from 7.00am until 6.30pm from Wednesday until Sunday and provides nutritious vegetarian meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at 7.00am, 12.00pm and 5.30pm respectively. Bookings for lunch are required and must be made by 10am that day; call 5453 2108. Tea, coffee and sweets are available outside of meal times.
The Dharma Gift Shop provides a range of gifts and study materials for students, and operates under the principle that, instead of buying and selling, customers make a donation and the store gives them a gift.
Simple, shared accommodation is available for students and those on group retreats. Overnight guest may access the library which provides information on psychology, philosophy, spirituality and other religions as well as Buddhism.
