School holidays is the time to get the kids away from the TV, x-box and computer and get outdoors, just like when we were kids.

You don't want to spend all your hard earned cash on theme parks and movies every time the kids break up from school so here are some cheap fun things to try.

The Glasshouse Mountains and Mt Mee Forest have beautiful walking trails and parks for the bush picnic. Don't forget to pack in the totem pole tennis to keep the kids entertained while you catch up on reading a book or just relaxing.

The beach is always a good choice so pack them and some food into the car. The foreshores of Sandgate or Redcliffe offer beachside parks with trees to climb, and cool shade for the family while you cook lunch on one of the many free BBQ's.

Scarborough Beach
Enjoy shady beachside parks on the Northside.

Ten pin bowling is a cheap day out and a fantastic way to keep indoors out of the sun on a hot day. Kids get addicted to this game once they get the ball rolling.

Enjoy ten pin bowling these holidays.

Why not take the longer drive to Somerset Dam? It is a beautiful place to have a picnic or camp over night and have a old fashioned wood BBQ and show the kids what the Milky Way really looks like out of the city lights. It's worth the drive and they will be amazed.

Don't forget the trusty old push bike ride along a beach foreshore and the basic fish and chip lunch. Still the classic fun day out.

Get them out of the house and enjoy our awesome spring temperatures as this is perfect weather now and give the kids a bit of exercise...Oh and also us.

Enjoy keeping that money in your pocket and save it for Christmas.
