Driving along the Barossa Valley you will encounter an amazing building where the storage vats look more like a fairytale castle than a winery. You have come to Chateau Dorrien, where they make family boutique wines and one of Australia's only manufacturers of Mead - an alcoholic honey drink.

Chateau Dorrien - in the heart of the Barossa Valley, is a family business, that has come from a third generation descendant of an Italian wine and liqueur making family.

They have successfully created lovely Honey Liqueurs from ancient family recipes.

They aim to continue producing hand-crafted boutique wines in their family boutique winery, which have won medal awards.

As you enter, there is something to delight all. As you walk along they have created a museum from the old vats which have been beautifully restored and painted into murals.

We sampled most of their wines, from the Meads (good for the sweet tooths) through to the fortified 'White Fort' (as they cannot call it Port any longer), then on to the reds.

Yes, we came away with a box full! I really liked the blackcurrant liqueur, which can be served with bubbly.

If you can't get there in person, you can also purchase from their online store and they will ship anywhere in Australia.

Chateau Dorrien is located at
the corner of Barossa Valley Way & Seppeltsfield Rd, Dorrien, via Tanunda
