I've spent some miserable Christmas Eves. The males in my family say they can't wrap. They say their hands are too big to embrace fiddly things like sticky tape and scissors. These guys who run marathons obviously don't appreciate small-scale physical challenges.

So as they snore upstairs it's some eggnog for me and hours of Christmas wrapping that leave me with little sleep to face the early rise on Christmas Day.

Wrapping is the nicety of turning what is often a store bought commodity into something individual and personal. It also heightens the elements of surprise and drama inherent in gift giving. And unfortunately the increasingly common shortcut of stuffing presents into gift bags just doesn't cut it.

But thankfully you can get your presents wrapped and you don't even have to feel guilty about passing on the burden because Christmas wrapping is a way of helping worthwhile charities and therefore adding to the allround Christmas spirit.

Here are places that will wrap your gifts for you. The cost is usually a gold coin donation (per gift) or a little more and it seems money well spent as well as a small way to give before we receive.

Myer Gift Wrap is an annual fundraising event for Vision Australia with hundreds of volunteers working back to back four hour shifts. It runs at the Ballarat, Bendigo, Chadstone, Doncaster, Eastland, Fountain Gate, Frankston, Highpoint, Knox City, Melbourne, Northland and Southland stores up until December 24th.

At Southgate gifts are beautifully wrapped and donations go to to Tevie Miller Heritage School. This is a centre for language and learning development for children with speech, language, and literacy disorders. Southgate supplies the wrapping paper, bows, ribbon and boxes and the donation is a minimum of $3 a gift.

December 15 – 19: 9:30AM – 9:30PM
December 20: 9:30AM – 9:00PM
December 21: 10:00AM – 6:00PM
December 22 & 23: 9:30AM – 9:30PM
December 24: 9:30AM – 2:00PM

Customers will be able to have their gifts beautifully wrapped for a gold coin donation at Harbour Town this Christmas. The Gift Wrapping Booth is open outside Tommy Hilfiger until Christmas Eve with all donations go to Lions Australia.

At the Jam Factory the proceeds from gift wrapping go to the Prahran Mission will get your presents wrapped and ready to give.
