Once described as a 'hot bed for the arts' by Geoffrey Rush, has gained an international reputation as a progressive arts venue. I'd say by their listings that they are not afraid to push the envelope. They host hundreds of unique shows and events every year.

The theatre has hosted artists including Shirley Bassey, Coldplay and Tripod. The Mezzanine and the Foyer are used for visual arts exhibitions. It might not look much from the outside but as soon as you enter the building it's a different matter. The centre has two theatrettes, a chic bar and modern foyer area with casual dining tables and comfy sofas with large coffee tables.

The intimate 255 seat Chapel theatre is a converted Independent Church of Prahran and the Chapel Loft seats 150 people. The boutique size adds to the feeling of intimacy. When I went to see Supergirly I felt like I was a special guest at a private performance.

It was obvious that there were many regulars socialising in the foyer before the show. Professional photos were being taken; I imagine these were for the celebrity wall of fame. I am told that the stars of the show often mingle with the guests after the shows. When we went there were free nibbles as well.

The Chapel Galleries provides exhibitors with a fully licensed bar service and curator who can assist with installation. For hiring enquiries click here .

The friendly staff certainly rates a mention. This was noticeable at the ticketing area, bar and when greeted entering the theatre.

The program is incredibly varied from comedy, drama, cabaret, hip-hop dancing workshops for children, circus acts and magicians. They cater for all audiences.

I am looking forward to the Melbourne Cabaret Festival. Here's two of their shows on my must see list*.

Ginger & Tonic: Desperate & Dateless
The Ginger and Tonic girls can't understand why their relationships never work out – they're vivacious, out-going and gorgeous (by their own admission). They've played hard to get, easy to get, tried salsa classes, swiped left and right on Tinder and even tried just 'being themselves' and nothing seems to work. But these four determined, modern women won't stop until they find what's coming to them.& #8232 ;

& #8232 ;Spanky in CANDICE Mcqueen: NASTY!& #8232 ;& #8232 ;
Spanky plays the immortal demi-goddess Candice McQueen, a 'Mr Sister' who has partied his/her way around the world for thousands of years. All that changes upon falling in love with fallen 90s screen idol River Phoenix. With her heart melting, Candice must journey to the underworld to save both their lives.& #8232 ;

Maybe I've got this wrong but the tennis coaching seems an odd combination with the chic entertainment centre. Chapel Off Chapel handles the nearby Princes Gardens tennis courts. It's still upmarket though, former Russian tennis champion Alex Shrayer is on site to help you improve your tennis game, have fun and keep fit.
