In keeping with the hip and dynamic times in which we live, the hip and dynamic
Chalk Urban Art Festival will be hitting Church Street, Parramatta, from the 29th of October to the 1st of November.
But first- a flashback. Older folk may vaguely recall a dark, distant era known as the "twentieth century". During these years (or so the history books say), galleries and museums were as plentiful as top hats and gramophones. Thankfully, that unenlightened period made way for the noughties, an age noted for taking traditional concepts and remorselessly sexing them up, until they ooze street cred. The result is events like the CUAF, which is best described as art, but not as your great-great-great-grandparents knew it.
This year, up to 40 people will be interpreting the theme of 'climate change', as they compete for the title of
Champion Pavement Artist. These are the sort of works that we can expect them to produce:
A long way to the top
Turtle power
Eye of the tiger
The
program will also include the
Body Art Competition,
body painting workshops and
chalk art auctions. And, in keeping with this year's theme, there will be
free climate change talks too.
