This year, the CERES Harvest Festival has a special emphasis on food and harvest across cultures. It celebrates the time of year when all our fruit and vegetables are at their best, after the summer growing season. This annual event also celebrates our farmers, producers, chefs and the simple joy of growing food in your own backyard. It acknowledges our good earth and the cycle of the seasons.

It is on at CERES, Corner of Stewart St & Roberts St. Brunswick East, on Saturday March 24th 10 am – 3 pm. There will be a vegetable growing competition, free workshops, live music, food, craft and artisan stores at a pop-up market.



Giant Vegetable Growing Competition

This competition is for those who think that bigger is better, so if your veggie patch is in full swing, why not see if they weigh up.

There are 3 categories:
1. Longest Gourd
2. Biggest Pumpkin (circumference & weight)
3. Biggest Zucchini

Pumpkin growing competitions never get old, and although there are a few tricks to growing a large pumpkin, I can tell you that it's the right variety will give you the edge. As for zucchini, the largest ones will surprise you, if you're accustomed to small shop-bought sizes, they can be massive if you let them grow to their full potential.



Do you know gourd? It comes in many shapes and sizes. It's used throughout the world by many different cultures for food, musical instruments, bowls and utensils. It is a very versatile vegetable!

The seeds of the almighty 'Oh my gourd' belong to local Brunswick resident and friend of the nursery, Paul Dimauro who comes from a Sicilian family of potato farmers in the Thorpdale area. Each year, Paul looks for the perfect place to plant his amazing gourd seeds in the nursery. Customers and staff get to share in the delight of watching these amazing fruits grow bigger and bigger and BIGGER over the summer season.

Paul has been growing his amazing gourds in the CERES Nursery for many years - the almighty gourd that was grown last year was 98.3cm long. Can you beat it?

Bring in your vegetables between 10:00 -10:30 am, judging will be from 12 noon. $5.00 entry fee is required on the day to enter. There will be some great prizes available.

There are some great workshops for both kids and adults



Live music
2018's Harvest Festival will showcase a diverse selection of local cultural talents in celebration of this seasons harvest. Featuring traditional folk instrumental pieces including the Celtic Harp, Japanese Taiko Drums, Xylophone, Accordion and much more.

Feature speaker: Ego Lemos
Ego Lemos is a permaculturist, ecological & human right activist and singer-songwriter from East Timor.

Food Stalls
Tamil Feast Sri Lankan Food, The Merri Table Cafe, Vegan food of all kinds, crepes, coffee and more.

Craft and Artisan Stalls
Hand knitting, ceramics, organic cotton active wear, native flowers, beeswax wraps, local produce and more. There are still a few more stalls available,
