Experiencing Melbourne this Winter for the first time is a real treat with each day offering a chance to see the outdoors and especially the coastline differently. So far the winter has seemed pretty mild to me, but like any change of seasons it brings with it an energy and opportunity to wrap up warm, get outdoors and experience life!

Winter in Melbourne has now definitely landed so rather than hibernating I thought it best I get out there and enjoy it. My family and I have been walking the Bayside coastal trail in bite size chunks with our children at the weekends. A particular stretch I really enjoy walking is from Sandringham to Half Moon Bay.

So on a cold yet bright and blustery Wednesday - what better way to get a dose of winter wellness than escape the city, walk a coastal trail with a good friend and enjoy an intimate invigorating lunch.

I'm lucky to live in Sandringham but if you want to head out of the city - this is the perfect day trip. Just jump on the train to Sandringham from Flinders Street and then head down to the Bayside coastal trail and walk (around 30 mins) to Half Moon Bay.

The stretch of Bayside coastal path between Sandringham and Half Moon Bay has inspired generations of Australian artists over the years and understandably so. The rugged red bluff cliffs and the HMVS Cerberus still stranded in the harbour are views that are a real treat on a winters' day.

A good quick paced walk along the beach to Half Moon Bay raised our appetites and prepared us for the meal we had awaiting us. We had booked into the Cerberus Beach House Restaurant, a real Melbourne hidden gem, just off Beach road as you head into Black Rock, but best found on foot across the sands.

The Cerberus is an award winning restaurant that in Summer is bursting at the seams, delivering consistently outstanding food and atmosphere. In winter it is the most ideallic, calming and reinvigorating place to visit to wash away those winter blues. With a set lunch menu that is unbelievably priced at only $39 a head for three courses including a glass of wine or fizz. Ranked number one by DIMMI in Melbourne for restaurant with a view this is the place to come, reconnect with a friend, dine at your leisure and enjoy the healing benefits of a stunning view over the Bay.

Views of nature bring about faster recovery times in patients and a real sense of wellbeing in humans - (yes, it is scientifically proven!) so in winter when you body is feeling like it deserves a treat and your wellbeing needs a boost choose tranquil spots to dine that will reenergise you and give your body the reboost it need.

The atmosphere was bustling yet not hurried. I enjoyed having time to laugh and chat without feeling interrupted or disturbed. The food was a delight. My London Hock soup warmed me up after our delightful walk, followed by a nourishing lemon herb and ricotta agnolotti and two deserts that were to die for! What better way to treat yourself on a winters' day at a really reasonable price.

Looking out over the bay with the Cerberus in sight feeling relaxed, warm, full and reenergised 'the Cerberus effect' washed over me as I realised my winter blues had vanished.

If you want to escape the winter blues and feel invigorated, head down to the Cerberus Beach House restaurant and enjoy the way it makes you feel.
