We've grown up listening to ditties like 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland' and 'Frosty the Snow Man'. We've bought spray on snow for that festive cheer. Yet, Australian Christmas is far from the cold celebration the Northern Hemisphere would have us believe. Christmas is a time for family, a time for relaxing, and a time for sharing. Christmas in July is a time for partying, drinking mulled wine, and kissing under plastic mistletoe. So get in the party spirit and consider throwing yourself a Christmas in July Party.

Here are just a few tips for putting your Christmas in July Party together:

1. Decorations
Obviously the key to creating a great Christmas feeling, is with lots and lots of excessive decorations. This includes fairy lights, musical Santas, reindeer, red and green streamers, and everything else you could dream of. Even if you don't bother decorating during regular Christmas, you need to if you want to celebrate Christmas in July. Don't worry if you don't have a good enough stock of Christmas supplies from last year, there are still plenty of options. Online is a great place to source Christmas gear at any time of year, but if you're lucky you might even be able to find a dedicated Christmas store. ' All Things Christmas ' or ' The Christmas Shop ' have Christmas supplies and decorations all year through.

2. Food and Drink
This is also a big part of the Christmas in July planning. You will want some nice warming drinks. Think hot chocolates, mulled wine, and eggnog. You can find some great recipes online. For food you'll want lots of candy canes, gingerbread men, and perhaps you could even try building an Adriano Zumbo Gingerbread House . You could cook up a turkey or a ham, but let's be honest, this is about partying not a multi-course meal. Just make sure there is enough festivity for your guests to nibble on.

3. Activities
You'll want to keep your friends entertained, so make sure you have some fun activities. Small things like popping christmas crackers, and trying to lure people under the mistletoe are great entertainment options. Present time is also good fun. Wrap up a load of presents under the tree, and watch your friends' delight when they open that packet of green army men, or the $2 bubble blower they never knew they wanted. Head to the Reject Shop and Cheap as Chips to get some great gifts for your friends.

Christmas in July is just like real Christmas, but it only focuses on the part at the end of the night, and forgets all the family feuds, screaming children, and stressful lunches. So get some christmas carol mix tapes burnt, roast some chestnuts on the fire, and get ready to party this July.
