Cassandra's on Queen café is situated right in the heart of St Mary's CBD offering a relaxed dining experience, with a wide menu that includes chicken and meat, salads, seafood, home-made cakes and all day breakfast. They also make fresh juices on the spot for the healthy eating aficionados, vegetarian and gluten free options. Oh and did I mention ALL DAY BREAKFAST?

We were lured to this café when my boyfriend told me one day that he had walked past it and thought of me (how sweet), because he knew the décor and menu were something I'd be attracted to. Sure enough, when we got there and I saw how cosy it was and how friendly the wait staff were, I immediately liked the vibe. It's always a good sign if you're walking from off the street, and the street is quiet but the café is buzzing. We went there on a sleepy Saturday morning for brunch with the kids in tow. Even the kids were taken by the friendly atmosphere (and for days afterwards, the four-year-old kept asking if we could go there again).

The café is relatively new, and they have been opened since last year. They won the "Best Café" category in the St Mary's/Mt Druitt area and I think it lives up to that expectation. The wait staff were very friendly and accommodated all our requests. They have a very good selection of breakfast items, which I drooled over, and prices are very good (starting at $6 for cake and coffee).

I ordered poached eggs Florentine with spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes on toast, and smoked salmon on the side, while my boyfriend ordered a pumpkin risotto. My boyfriend loved his pumpkin risotto so much I was compelled to try it, as he didn't know how to describe the party in his mouth. It was soft and oozy, with a nice creamy-garlicky flavour. The addition of feta cheese balanced out the creaminess beautifully. I loved my poached eggs and salmon – one can't go wrong with these brunch staples. The kids had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich between them, with fries. They liked the fries as it was super-crunchy. We all enjoyed our meal and ended up paying less than $50 – well worth the money. We liked our experience so much we came back a few weeks later and tried their other breakfast options, as well as their coffee, fresh juices and milkshakes for the kids. The coffee was nice and smooth, and the juices were freshly-made in front of us.

Cassandra's on Queen also does takeaways.
