Is there anything that says Christmas is coming more than carols? Tradition has it that Christmas carols in English date back to the thirteenth century, when major celebrations throughout the year were commonly marked with communal song.

In Perth, our balmy summer nights are a perfect chance meet up with friends and family and relax at one of the many free family Christmas carol events on offer. There's bound to one near you, here are just a few...



Burswood
Carols in the Park
Sunday 11 December 2016, from 6pm
Performances will feature the Johnny Young Talent Team of WA, Canning City Brass Band, Coastal Scottish Pipes and Drums and the 'Take Note' singers. Bring the family, a rug and a picnic, for a fun and merry night to help bring in the season's greetings. Free event; song books and candles available for purchase, with proceeds going to the Kent Street High School Chaplaincy. Read more .

Carols by Candlelight
Saturday 10 December 2016, 7pm - 8:30pm (food from 6pm)
Sing along to traditional Carols performed by the Canning City Brass Band, the Rossmoyne Community Singers, the Avenue jazz ensemble and soloist Madeline Crofts, with a special visit from Father Christmas! Bring your own seating/picnic rugs. Read more .

Candlelight Carols on South Beach
Sunday 18th December 2016, from 6pm (singing from 7pm)
Families can sing, swim and picnic in the new iconic South Beach location. A variety of food stalls will be on site to cater for those not wanting to bring picnics, these will be open from 6pm. Read more .

Mandurah
Community Christmas Pageant
Tuesday 13 December 2016, 6pm – 8.30pm
The festivities start with a Christmas Pageant from 6pm where local community groups and businesses parade their floats through Mandurah's CBD. After the parade head to the foreshore where you can visit Santa's Grotto, watch the live nativity scene and listen to carols. Fireworks finale 8:30pm. Read more .

Carols @ Murdoch
Sunday 11 December 2016, from 7pm
Murdoch University is hosting its annual Carols @ Murdoch event, taking place at the South Street campus on Upper Bush Court. The Variety Youth Choir will perform a selection of popular Christmas Carols from 7pm. This is a free, family friendly event for all of the community to attend. Free parking is available on campus.
