Local band Robbie Jalapeno and the Fabulous Band of Faceless Bureaucrats are launching their brand new album
Carmina de Nihil: translation 'Songs about nothing'.
"We are happy people really - I just write sad songs!" Said lead singer and songwriter, Robbie Jalapeno.
"Over time, I noticed many of the songs I have written have these themes of 'nothingness' in them. They all seem to revolve around the shortcomings of materialism and I guess the lack of spirituality, of community, in our society. Having said that, I guess I try to be non-judgemental about it in the lyrics, and leave some elements of hope in there for the listener!"
I've had the pleasure of seeing Robbie Jalapeno and the Bureaucrats a number of times around Perth. Apart from the ever so fabulous name and the occasional suit, there's nothing bureaucratic about them.Their vibe is so very cool, it relaxes you with it's air and sends you on a trip down a rabbit hole you never new existed.
The Bureaucrats have spent the last 18 months working on this new album; a blend of current themes - existentialism, feminism and the frustrations of modern society.
Friday 29 August you can join the band in a celebration of the new album at The Astor Lounge in Mt Lawley. The band are super excited about the album but also relieved to see it finally hit the shelves.
"It's a big undertaking and there are always a few hurdles on the way – not least of which was me being run over by a car! In the end, it appears nothing was going to stop this album coming out. There's something special about it, for us at least, and hopefully other people will agree when they listen to it!" Robbie said.
