While most Brisbane beer lovers have done the
XXXX Brewery tour, not many people know that one of Australia's most popular brewing companies has a brewery less than an hour's drive away. The Carlton Brewery Tour, something of a secret amongst beer connoisseurs, makes for an interesting and convenient day trip.
Carlton and United Breweries is responsible for many well loved brands of beer, such as Victoria Bitter, Pure Blonde and Crown Pilsner, as well as the range of Carlton varieties (Draught, Black, Lager, etc.) The
Carlton Brewhouse (
Cuthbert Drive, Yatala) houses their Queensland brewery, which is one of the largest in Australia, as well as an event venue for tours and functions.
The Carlton Brewhouse Tour takes patrons inside the brewery as they experience the creation process from brewing to tasting. Participants will see inside the factory, enjoy talks from brewery employees and finish the tour with a complimentary beer tasting. Afterwards, guests may enjoy lunch and more drinks at the bar or beer garden.
The tour takes approximately one hour to complete, not including the beer tasting. Flat, enclosed shoes must be worn. The tour costs $25 for adults and $10 for children under the age of ten, which includes a guided tour, souvenir gift and beer tasting (for adults only).
