This year, CanTeen's 'National Bandanna Day' is being held Friday, 26th October, 2012.

CanTeen supports young people and their families through the pressures of living with, or death from, cancer. They are constantly raising money and awareness for this disease, by conducting fundraising events such as 'National Bandanna Day,' in conjunction with other efforts.

Bianca Lavorgna is the Division Manager for the Western Australia Division and is quoted in a recent letter as saying, "That's why CanTeen exists - to make sure young people dealing with cancer have somewhere to go so they can make sense of it all ..."

How true? I can't imagine what it would be like to have someone close to you, especially your child, suddenly receive a diagnosis that cancer is present. It might feel earth-shattering to say the least.

To stay positive and happy, continuing on with life as normal as possible would prove challenging, maybe even difficult; now another area of life you don't want encroaches on your day to day activities, threatening to change your future plans.

This is one of the reasons I support CanTeen. It is a fabulous organisation that helps many people cope with the steps ahead and beyond. I had read once that 1 in 3 people can or will develop cancer in their lifetime. At some point we all know someone, or are affected by it.

For $5 or less, you can give a small amount of support, by simply purchasing a Bandanna, Badge, Lapel Pin or Pen. The difference to people's lives would be insurmountable if nearly everyone could contribute in this way alone.

Last year I gave fundraising for CanTeen a go and ordered a display box of 50 bandannas to sell. The whole process was easy and gave me an insight into this very good cause.

I have just placed my current order to receive a mixed pack of 300 bandannas to sell. My partner, also expressing his interest to get his company involved, will help with the sales – thank you.

Ordering is easy, costs nothing except your time and any unsold bandannas or other merchandise can be returned without cost to you after the event is finished.

You can also entertain the idea of a sponsored event for the day, i.e. a run around your local park or along your favourite beach. The website lists many examples for individuals and businesses. How much fun would it be to create your own fundraising idea?

If you are interested in 'Street Sales' and would like to turn up and donate some time on Friday, 26th October, 2012, please place your registration here to volunteer.

National Bandanna Day is exactly that – nationwide. If you wish to help 'rebel' against cancer, contact a CanTeen representative for queries or assistance. Click here for quick access to details and thank you for showing your support.
