The highlight of the evening will be the appearance of Jane Peters who, at age 12, came to national attention as the winner of the Showcase Competition on Australian television. She is also a prize-winner of the Tchaikovsky Competition and has made exclusive Australian appearances including an unconducted performance of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Mozart's tender Adagio.

Jane Peters is a significant international musician and a refined violinist. According to the New York Times her, 'tone is luminous and true; her playing is articulate and supple.'

Another feature of this gala opening will be Camerata's first public performance of Prokofiev's Classical Symphony and Stravinsky's Pulcinella Suite. Both pieces are highly refined works of Russian composers harking back to an earlier classical era when music guided inspiration which, in turn, acted as a stimulus for even more wonderful music.

The complete program for the evening, which will run for about 80 to 90 minutes without an interval, consists of:
  • Sergei Prokofiev: Classical Symphony, Op.25 (Symphony No.1);
  • Wolfgang A. Mozart: Adagio for Violin and Orchestra in E Major, K.261;
  • Igor Stravinsky: Pulcinella Suite; and
  • Felix Mendelssohn: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in E Minor, Op.64.

  • Come for the brilliant music and to also support Camerata's ongoing work of delivering workshops, school talks and concerts to support the education of young string players throughout Queensland.
