'Life Happens' in , as you cross the threshold into this tranquil haven.

It's a place to be still; to connect with yourself and nature, for young and old.

Set on a steep slope, the gardens offer a myriad of nooks as you wander around the narrow stepped pathways.

Established since 1969 and named after Professor EG Waterhouse, a leading world authority on camellias, who lived in Sydney. Funded by generous community donations and run by Sutherland Shire Council with a small team of thoroughly dedicated gardeners.

The lower section of the gardens flows through to Kareena Park, giving views over the beautiful Yowie Bay, on Port Hacking in Sydney's South.

Although named , there are many additional flowers and shrubs which give colour throughout the year, creating a garden for all seasons. In spring, the Camellia sasanqua blooms, February is the time for the Camellia japonica and from mid winter to late September, you will find the Camellia reticulate. The circular rose garden comes to life throughout the summer months and rows of annuals blush with pride against waxy leaves of evergreens.

The gardens provide something for anyone who seeks a time for peace and passive recreation.

Wander through the gardens to find your own quiet space; to share a special moment with a loved one, read your favourite novel or lay a blanket to rest awhile in the sun.

Artists set their easels to paint, photographers frame their cameras to capture and people observe the abundance of beauty that surrounds.

Great care is taken in this harmonious ecosystem, allowing a profusion of bird, animal and insect life to thrive amongst the gardens. It's also a haven for many migratory and rare birds.

Hear children squeal with delight as they feed ducks swimming in the pond, discovering a blue tongued lizard basking in the sun, or watching the great Orb Spiders spin their golden webs. There is much for them to learn.

You will find people enjoying private picnics and birthday parties, on beautifully manicured lawns and children playing in the fenced playground. Couples walk hand in hand along the meandering pathways.

Sit in the Japanese inspired tea house for a quiet meal with friends and gaze out over the vistas.

These stunning gardens are a favourite for weddings, wedding photography and naming ceremonies. With several designated areas, each offers a unique setting. A charming gazebo positioned beside a duck filled pond for intimate occasions, a heavenly arch frames a circular rose bed for the romantics, or flourishing lawns encased by vibrant blooming camellia trees for larger gatherings.

So when you want to give peace to your mind and body, take a trip to 104 President Avenue, Caringbah and take a step into this tranquil haven and find your bliss.
