Behind the flower market on Columbia Road is
Vintage Heaven. And behind Vintage Heaven is the Cakehole Cafe. A quiet, civilised place to escape everything that you don't like about modern London and modern life.
This little place is a real charmer. The décor is busy and eclectic, in a good way, and the cakes and their mini cuppa varieties taste homemade. Also in a good way.
The cafe is actually part of the back of the shop, so when I say small, I really mean it. This means that they have a limited selection of delicacies – soup in winter, but apart from that it's mostly tea and cake. But really what else do you need?
The fact that Vintage Heaven specialises in gorgeous vintage tea-sets and similar means that you'll be drinking your brew out of something pretty as well. This makes it feel all the more special. And reviving.
