The popular Cabaret Soirée season is back DownStairs at the Maj from the 21st August to the 11th October, playing every Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a line-up of national and local cabaret acts.

The Maj has put together a collection of talented performers paying tribute to some of the great legends of the music world including Jim Morrison, Annie Lennox, Dorothy Fields, Sophie Tucker & more….

Cabaret Soirée 2014 begins with the former star of Wicked and We Will Rock You - Amanda Harrison. Her show Up Close and Reasonably Personal is a candid evening of song and conversation with one of Australia's most prolific musical theatre artists. With a fair dose of humorous self-reflection about the contrast of the glamour of stage life and the realities of day-to-day domesticity.

The show is an intimate, colourful and rare insight into the life of a wife/mother/diva. Up Close and Reasonably Personal runs from the 21st to the 23rd August.

The second in the delightful programme is Luigi Lucente's tribute Jim Morrison: Kaleidoscope. Get a glimpse into the curious mind of a rock 'n' roll revolutionary that crashed through the speakers of the 1960's with the illicit music of The Doors.
Runs from the 28th to the 30th August.

Jessie Gordon with The Eight-Piece Perth Cabaret Collective follows with Speak Easy. This is the Jazz Age – the Roaring Twenties. You are wrapped in the warm embrace of the Speakeasy – a world of hedonistic pleasure where anything is possible. Speak Easy runs from the 4th to the 6th September.

Christa Hughes and Leonie Wilson come next with their show, Beer Drinking Woman. Follow the night of a lush from that first dizzying sip all the way through to the hair-of-the-dog hangover blues. The show runs from the 11th to the 13th of September.

Then we have the Mint Jazz Band (Comprising Mark Cunniffe, Jake Dennis, Alana MacPherson, Nathan O'Brien, Kate Pass) and delectable Perth chanteuse Rhoda Lopez.
The story of love's shadows; a tale of midnight smoke rings in cold streets; a tale of fragile embers and smoke blown to passionate fire… Runs from the 18th to the 20th September.

Marika Aubrey & Her Red Hot 3-Piece Jazz Band follow with their heart-felt tribute to Sophie Tucker: The Last of the Red Hot Mamas. Sophie Tucker overcame humble beginnings to become an oversexed, outspoken, outrageous star of vaudeville. From Thursday the 25th to Sat the 27th September.

Marika is followed by Michael Griffiths (Jersey Boys) tribute to Annie Lennox - Sweet Dreams. Classics from the gender-bending early days as one half of 80's new wave sensation Eurythmics to her stunning solo career. Sweet Dreams runs from the 2nd to the 4th October.

Ali Bodycoat, Ian Cross and Izaak Lim end the season with an homage to famed librettist, Oscar-winning Dorothy Fields, author of The Way You Look Tonight. I Can't Give You Anything But Love. Big Spender. You know the songs, but how well do you know the lyricist? Exactly Like You: The Magic of Dorothy Fields runs from the 9th to Saturday the 11th October.

Tickets cost standardly *$42, or concession *$38. Bookings may be made with Ticketek: Phone 1300 795 012, go online or buy in person over the counter at a Venue Box Office or Ticketek Agency.
