Obviously the food is a pretty big reason to visit a restaurant, but it's not the only reason. There's also the ambience, which is a posh word for vibe, and includes the décor, the buzz of the place, the service and the view - if there is one. And when it comes to the
Chop House there certainly is one of Tower Bridge and the river.
That is one of the main reasons eating in this restaurant is such a pleasant experience. The décor is nice: it's long and thin, offering as many tables as possible a view of the river though French windows that open in summer. And the tables and booths are all blonde wood, which, paired with the basic white cloths and nicely shaped glasses, makes everything feel very clean. And the good design and location means that the Chop House always has a good buzz to it.
The food is that old London favourite 'Best of British', so it's gamey, and of course fish, as suits the locale.
As well as the main restaurant they have a less formal
bar which serves a limited menu, representing some of the best meals served in the restaurant – which is great if you've left things to the last minute to organise or if you're in a hurry. The bar also serves
breaky and
brunch until midday, and a fine selection of ales and beers after that.
