Live music
Burrinja Cultural Centre is a combination art gallery, cafe, restaurant, theatre and music venue, located north east of Melbourne in the lovely little town of Upwey. The scope and variety of offerings means there is something for everyone, even the children.
Here's some examples from the Burrinja website of what to expect.
The Mighty bUZZniks (Saturday 3rd March, 2pm).
If Dr Seuss started a rockband... This would be it.
The bUZZniks bridge the gap between music for toddlers and teens bringing a show of diverse musical styles where hip-hop, rock, folk and pop back quirky lyrics for the little people.
The String Contingent (Saturday 17th March, 8pm)
Virtuosic instrumental trio The String Contingent compose and perform music of sparkling beauty and originality that explores the full spectrum of musical expression. Australians Chris Stone (violin) and Holly Downes (double bass) with Scotsman Graham McLeod (guitar) integrate disparate musical styles through their own refined acoustic sensibilities.
Rosie Burgess Trio (Friday 23rd March, 8pm)
Sometimes it's hard to fit people into boxes, and the Rosie Burgess Trio are no exception. Sliding from folk to blues to gypsy-roots and back, the trio cross more genres than state borders, giving off "more energy than an illegally sparked firecracker".
Check out their upcoming exhibitions too, they promise to be spectacular.
But wait, there's more. Burrinja also has a theatre with regular performances from the likes of Dave O'Neill and performances of James and the Giant Peach.
