The bohemian, university neighbourhood of Nimmenhaemin is unsurprisingly home to a number of boutique cafes and bijou bars. However, there are other unexpected treats up its sleeve, including the unprepossessing but rather wonderful Burmese Restaurant.

The plastic outdoor seating was fairly basic, but the food was freshly cooked in front of us and delivered to our table within minutes. We had the duck egg curry, roselle soup (less a soup and more of a spicy pickled salad), tamarind leaf salad (our top pick) and an eggplant curry to round it all off. Portions are delicate in size but pack a big taste punch. Other exciting options to choose from included pennywort salad and goat curry.

The best part was, at approximately 20 baht a dish, the entire thing came in at under 100 baht - definitely the cheapest and possibly the tastiest meal we have enjoyed in Chiang Mai.
