Blueberry Farm
Blueberry Farm

We were delighted to find a place near Ballarat to pick our own blueberries, eat as many as we want while we picked, and pay less than half of what we would need to pay at a supermarket.

Buninyong Blueberry Farm is located a short fifteen minute drive out of Ballarat town centre. You're able to pick your own blueberries when blueberries are in season over summer (January to February, subscribing to the Farm's mailing list for exact dates). Pick your own blueberries are $11 per kg, but you can buy commercial blueberries for $13 per kg, or dessert grade ones for $16 per kg.

Picking your own blueberries is highly recommended. Nibbling away at the blueberries you pick, bending and climbing into the shrubs to find the best picks, and "tickling" the ripe blueberries until they drop into your hands is great fun. We went with a group of friends - some of us had slightly green, slightly sour picks, whilst others had a large bucket of beautiful sweet and ripe blueberries. Eat them fresh or freeze them for an icy treat.

Umm, I love blueberries, they are a calming fruit. Great for smoothies and you can freeze them, so if you pick lots, you can store them for some time. Lovely writing.

Sounds fun! I know a few places like this where you can pick your own strawberries but didn't know of this blueberry farm. Blueberries can be expensive at times, even when in the peak of their season and especially if you need a lot for a particular recipe, so sounds like a good way to save money on them while having fun as well (not to mention stuffing your face as you go)!

Thanks Michaelie, yeah, taste testing whilst you pick is the best part! ;)
