Sellicks Hill is now home to a giant Buddha Goddess on the hill. Many curious onlookers have been observing the building and unveiling of this statue. The response overall so far has been positive. The statue has the image of a female in a serene pose not the expected rotund, bald male Buddha.

Far from dominating the skyline, it seems to present an image of peacefulness among the hills. The statue is set down from the road overlooking the coast.

The statue arrived in 23 shipping containers from China in late December, which is part of a $15 million religious retreat by the Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple of Australia Inc. The statue is reported to have cost one million dollars. It forms part of a retreat on Cactus Canyon Rd. which will also include a 35m high pagoda, a temple and Chinese gardens.

Nan Hai Pu Tuo Temple of Australia spokesman Lee Chew has said the statue represents the goddess of mercy, which would bring "peace, harmony, prosperity and wealth to SA". The retreat is sure to develop further with real potential for many more visitors to this site and the area. Whatever else viewers may think, she is one big lady!
