I'm a grandmother, a retired teacher, an avid reader who loves historical re-enactment, English Country Dance, writing and Op Shopping. My business www.StepIntoHistory.com.au is designed to help children experience history through school incursions.
Ok. I acknowledge it is not just down the road; nevertheless the Brunswick River Markets are well worth a drive. An hour and a half from Brisbane but much closer from the Gold Coast or Northern NSW.
A great selection of good quality goodies.
Firstly the markets themselves are full of good quality products. I saw some beautiful classy clothes - all very well made, a stall of delightful hand made reversible hats, fantastic items from recycled tyres, at least 3 types of interesting shopping bags and a great selection of reasonably priced plants. There were also all sorts of interesting food and skin and sun products, decor and much much more.
This stall was brilliant.
Interesting well made clothing.
Dressed for success at their stall.
Plants, plants, plants.
Secondly, right beside the markets you have the gorgeous river where you can relax in the shade, have a picnic, swim or kayak.
The markets are on the banks of the river.
Thirdly the town is just over the road. It boasts lots of cafes and shops and a huge, family friendly pub.
A short walk will take you to the fourth delight - the sheltered bay, Torakina, which is perfect for child friendly swim and then further on you can walk out to the surf and go for a long beach walk or fly a kite. You can buy one at the Visitors Centre on Park Street. Maybe you would rather fish from the bridge or the surf. If the fish are not biting you can call in the Fish and Chip shop.
