To the Kaurna people it is known as 'Wirraparinga', which means 'Creek and Scrub place'. The area of Brownhill Creek is one of Adelaide's most beautiful natural settings and is well worth the visit. Great for day hiking trips, make your way to the top of Brownhill and take in the absolutely spectacular views of the city of Adelaide.
Brownhill creek meanders through the leafy suburbs of Mitcham, Crafers and the Adelaide hills. This is former sheep grazing country where over 100 years ago shepherds tended their flock on this very ground. Some people say there are still reminders of the old days of settlement such as cart tracks embedded deep into the hillsides.
When you think back to before settlement, you can almost imagine the Kaurna people and what their daily lives would have been like in this incredibly beautiful place. These days Brownhill Creek is enjoyed by bushwalkers, families and community groups alike. It's a truly wonderful place to visit so take time out this weekend.
